Organization: Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest provides the “All Stars” program in the Boundary County Junior High located in Bonners Ferry, ID. All Stars is a school- and community evidence-based program designed to delay onset of alcohol, tobacco and illicit drug use. All Stars has five objectives: 1) Reinforce the belief that risky behaviors are not normal or acceptable; 2) Cultivate the belief that risky behaviors do not fit with the youth's personal ideals and aspirations; 3) Create strong personal commitments to not participate in risky behaviors; 4) Strengthen relationships between adolescent, social institutions, and significant adults; and 5) Help parents and other adults listen to children and communicate clear no-use expectations.

The “Life Skills Training” program is a comprehensive program that teaches drug resistance skills, personal self-management skills, and general social skills. Trained facilitators present the program to students in grades 3-5 in all elementary schools. Success Club is an after-school tutoring program offered four days per week at Vallivue middle schools to students in grades 6-8. Students receive a substance abuse prevention lesson from the “Positive Action” curriculum as well as academic tutoring and practice in math, language arts and reading. Computers are provided for practice drills to increase ISAT scores.

Our prevention at Cascade SD has been mainly with Red Ribbon Week. This program salutes the ultimate sacrifice made by Special Agent Camarena whom the program is founded for and all of the men and women who have sacrificed their lives to support our nation’s struggle against illegal drug use. By participating in Red Ribbon Week activities we are taking a stand for our youth through a commitment to drug prevention education. Other activies we have done are with outside organizations like the Meth project and some community wide events. The staff at the Cascade SD value prevention and welcome the opportunity to foster and establish primary prevention for 2010 and the years ahead. Joanne is the fiscal / accounts payable.

Organization: Fifth Judicial District Drug Court delivers the evidence-based “Strengthening Families Program” (SFP), a nationally and internationally recognized parenting and family strengthening program. SFP is a 14-session, science-based parenting, children's life skills, and family skills training program that involves both parents and children to significantly reduce problem behaviors in children, improve school performance, and reduce delinquency and alcohol and drug use in teenagers. This program is offered to the children of Drug Court participants, who are at high risk for substance abuse and other harmful behaviors.

Organization: Boys and Girls Club of the Magic Valley offers the evidence-based prevention program “Positive Action” to approximately 600+ youth in Region 5. As part of their mission of keeping children safe and providing them with valuable life skills, the Boys and Girls Club uses the Positive Action program to reach youth ages 5-18 in three Region 5 communities. Programs are offered in Twin Falls at the summer and after-school programs, in Buhl during the summer program, and in Gooding at the Kids' Discovery Center. All participants receive weekly, age appropriate sessions in self-awareness, self-respect, healthy life-skills and the tools for drug resistance and awareness. Sessions are taught by trained Positive Action Coordinators.

Organization: Alices House delivers the Nurturing Parenting Program. We deliver 2 programs for the Parents of Adolescents and 1 program for Teen Parents. The Nurturing Parenting Programs are family-centered programs designed to build nurturing skills. The Nurturing Programs address parents' needs for nurturance and re-parenting and also provide concurrent nurturing learning experiences for children. Parents and children are taught similar skills and attitudes to maximize learning and maintenance of new knowledge. Alices House, Inc. is a non-profit wellness center. We offer individual, family and group counseling for children, adults, couples and their families. We have counseling, seminars, classes and retreats. We have trained professionals dedicated to helping individuals and their families heal.

Organization: Bannock Youth Foundation has provided services to youth and their families for over 30 years. We do this through three programs: Bannock House, MK Place and the Family Resource Center. Services provided through Bannock House include: Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter, Anger Management, Youth & Family Counseling, Treatment Family Program, In Home Services, Independent Living Program and the Suicide Hotline. MK Place houses our residential drug and alcohol treatment program. We also provide outpatient groups before and after school. The Family Resouce Center offers the Nurturing Program, BabySteps, Project SafePlace and the Street Outreach. Organization: Bear Lake School District provides two evidence-based substance abuse programs in Montpelier. “Protecting You/Protecting Me” is delivered in the elementary school. Protecting You/Protecting Me is a 5-year, classroom-based alcohol use prevention curriculum for elementary students. Designed to reduce alcohol-related injury and death in our nation's youth, Protecting You/Protecting Me is proven to change children's knowledge about the effects of alcohol on brain and personal development and to increase children's intentions not to ride with an impaired driver. “Project Northland” is delivered in all students in grades 6-8. This program helps to prevent or reduce alcohol use among young adolescents by using a multilevel, community-wide approach. The program consists of social-behavioral curricula in schools peer leadership, parental involvement/education, and community-wide task force activities.

Organization: Bear Lake Enough is Enough: Anti Drug Coalition is made up of citizens and representatives of service agencies in Bear Lake County. Anyone concerned with drugs or alcohol is invited to attend meetings and help plan projects to prevent drug and alcohol abuse in their communities. Current activities focus on the evidence-based community process “Communities that Care,” which helps a community identify substance abuse risk factors that can be addressed to improve the quality of life for everyone.

Organization: Still Waters Outreach is a not for profit drug and alcohol program. They have been working under the Federal Access To Recovery grant as a Recovery Support Program. Through providing both drug and alcohol treatment and recovery support services for the state of Idaho we have found great success in recovery support. We currently have three masters’ level staff members and one Licensed Social Worker. All Staff members have extensive experience in working with addicted families.

Organization: Prevention Intervention (TND+) is an Idaho-developed substance abuse prevention pilot program that combines the evidence-based Towards No Drug Abuse program with a structured, facilitated support group that explores and expands the topics of TND. The program is open to youth who struggle with muliple risk factors for substance use but who do not yet qualify for substance abuse treatment.

Organization: Family Support Services-Located in Arco, Idaho, Family Support Services (FSS) provides substance abuse prevention in the Lost River Valley. Utilizing the Nurturing Parenting program developed by Stephen J. Bavolek, FSS serves families in gaining skills to overcome and prevent substance abuse. FSS also provides psychosocial rehabilitation services (PSR) for children and adults.

Organization: Lemhi’s After School Promise (LASP) in Salmon has been providing youth development services for the past ten years. LASP provides children with a safe place to gather after school where they can develop their social and decision-making skills to increase self-confidence and foster their commitment to learning. LASP is a non-profit community organization and the only after school program in Lemhi County. At-risk students in grades 1-2 attend evidence-based “Second Step” classes on a regular basis. The major components of the program are social skill development, academic assistance, nutrition, violence and drug prevention lessons and enrichment activities such as art, drama and music. LASP also offers the evidence-based “Life Skills Training” program for students in grades 3-6. This program is designed to help students avoid drug and alcohol problems by helping them increase self-control and self-esteem and develop general problem solving and decision making skills.

Organization: Upper Valley Resource and Counseling Center offers the evidence-based “Project Toward No Drug Abuse” at Central High School and Junior High School in Rexburg as well as Jefferson High School in Jefferson County. Project TND teaches participants increased coping and social skills that allow them to grasp the cognitive misperceptions that may lead to substance use, express a desire not to abuse substances, understand the sequence of substance abuse and the consequences of using substances, correct myths concerning substance use, demonstrate effective communication, coping, and self control skills, and state a commitment to discuss substance abuse with others. Upper Valley also offers a parenting program to the general public. This parenting program uses the "Nurturing Parenting" curricula. This curricula uses the group modality to teach and train both parents and children in the interactions that will improve their working realtionship.
