This is a sad week for Benchmark and many others as we come to terms with the sudden death of Jackie Matlick, our substance abuse prevention Regional Manager for Regions 3 & 4. Jackie and her husband were involved in a high-speed, head-on collision in Oregon on Sunday, May 7th, 2006. Jackie's husband survived the collision and is recovering in a Portland hospital.
Jackie brought a passion for helping others to everything she did. Her professional career spanned many therapeutic occupations, including juvenile probation, substance abuse prevention & treatment, community coalition development and parent education. In the short time we knew her, she never ceased to advocate for those whose voices go unheard. She was an admirable human being.
We've received an overwhelming amount of contact from people whose lives Jackie touched, both from the Boise area and far beyond. In their own ways, each expressed their sadness at Jackie's passing but also their gratitude to have known her. The writer below said it well.
"I am grateful for the opportunity of having had Jackie in my life and for the lessons, affection, and wisdom she shared. These gifts I will carry into the rest of my life."
We'll miss you, Jackie, as a colleague, teacher and friend. The world is a better place because you were in it, and because you cared so much. Thank you for all that you did.
John, Annette, Duncan and the rest of the Benchmark team.
